This talk serves as a case study of the creative process behind the making of Huntsville Station, which documents the release of parolees from Huntsville State Penitentiary in Texas, as they take in their first moments of freedom with phone calls, cigarettes, and quiet reflection at a Greyhound bus station nearby.

The somewhat atypical approach to this documentary illustrates a level and embrace of chance, intuition, and emotion that led these filmmakers through the production of this work from ideation through the final cut. We will explore this process in detail and in the context of filmmaker Chris Filippone’s particular approach to documentary filmmaking. This will be a flexible discussion, so participants are welcome to ask questions during the presentation, as well as after in a Q&A session.

Speaker: Chris Filippone, director from the USA
