Joona Mäkelä (1986) is a Helsinki-based filmmaker and performing artist. In his film practice, he seeks for experimental ways of approaching the materiality and agency of film by using eco-developing and eco-dyeing methods. As a film director, he wants to develop new collective and experimental working methods. Mäkelä’s background is in composing and performing music, literature studies, and craft beer brewing which he now continues in the context of film brewing. Currently, Mäkelä is finishing his studies in documentary film at ELO Film School Finland in Aalto University. He works and lives in Helsinki, Finland.
