Darko Basheski graduated from the Department of Cinematography at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Skopje in 1995.

From 2008 to 2011, he was a member of the Management Board of EURIMAGES. At 2008, he became the director of the Macedonian Film Fund, and later took over the position of director of the newly formed Film Agency, which he managed until the end of 2015. Since 2016, he has been the executive director of the Giffoni Macedonia Youth Film Festival.

Basheski was an active participant in the organization of other film festivals and programmes for young talents. In 2024, together with partner organizations from the region, they formed the EDU CUTS network for the education of young people, in order to provide them with resources, mentoring and opportunities for professional development.
