MEET2TALK 2026 – SPEAKER
Jola Wieczorek is an Austrian filmmaker of Polish origin. She graduated from the international master’s program DOC Nomads, studying in Lisbon, Budapest, and Brussels. Her graduation film, O QUE RESTA, premiered at the 68th Locarno Film Festival.
Her debut feature documentary, STORIES FROM THE SEA, premiered at the Viennale and received several awards. Her latest feature, DAYS YET UNKNOWN, won Best Documentary at the Max Ophüls Film Festival and the Local Artist Award at Crossing Europe. The film is currently screening at festivals and will be released in Austrian cinemas in September.
Wieczorek’s work explores themes of migration, memory, and identity. As stated in the jury’s citation for the Outstanding Artist Award, which she received in 2023: “The filmmaker undertakes expeditions to places that become focal points, where, with extraordinary sensitivity to language, she conducts a cinematic search for traces, negotiates complex processes of remembrance, and reveals the historical dimensions embedded in individual life stories.”
