Doris Bauer is a co-director of the international short film festival VIENNA SHORTS. She studied political sciences at the University of Vienna and works as a cultural manager and curator. Until 2014 she was the director of the open-air cinema espressofilm, which she co-founded, and the managing director of the DVD rental Filmgalerie 8½. In 2012, she co-founded the interest group Association of Austrian Film Festivals, acting as its spokesperson until early 2018.
Doris Bauer has been working at VIENNA SHORTS since 2013 and has been responsible for the selection of the international competition Fiction & Documentary since then. As of 2018 she has been the co-director of the festival.
The European Short Film Network (ESFN), a network of now six European short film festivals, was also founded in the same year. The major project is the jointly developed streaming platform THIS IS SHORT, which has been available worldwide as a year-round short film platform since November last year.
VIENNA SHORTS is also a member of the festival network called the European Network for Film Discourse (END), which focuses primarily on film criticism. The activities centre on workshops, mentoring programmes, and the film criticism magazine Talking Shorts.
