My name is Anya. I was born in Moscow on a hot summer day in July 1990. I did well in school and went on to study law at Moscow State University. It all looked like the right path (but not a truthful one). But when I was 20, still a law student, I saw Fellini’s La Strada — and something shifted. I didn’t know cinema could feel like that. I got my degree and spent over a decade working in international companies. I became a legal expert. But the feeling I had watching La Strada never left. In 2022, when the war between Russia and Ukraine began, and in 2023, when I had to leave my home, everything in my life narrowed to one simple thought: I can’t keep postponing what really matters. That’s when I turned to documentary filmmaking. I recently graduated from the Un/Filmed documentary film school.
